October, 2008
Minutes of Sept. 21, 2008 STBA
The September meeting opened at 1:02 p.m. with President Ken Pierson presiding. Approximately 30-35 people were present. The minutes of the July meeting were not read. The treasurer’s report was given by Louise. The festival financial report showed a profit of about $600.00. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report as read. Carried.
Old Business: Ed Mattison mentioned that he appreciated the efforts of those members who helped in any way before and during the festival. Those people do certainly deserve a big Thank You!
New Business: Dona Lavalle will head up the nominating committee for election of officers in November. She actually volunteered to do so. If you are approached by Dona to be considered for an office, please give it some consideration. It does any association good to have “new blood” to govern it. It’s time for some new, fresh ideas to help promote bluegrass music. I believe all of the present officers would agree and probably appreciate others stepping up to the plate.
After quite a discussion, it was decided not to have a concert at the October Meeting. It’s very difficult to find bands that will perform. Louise suggested having members donate food items to the Addison food pantry whether there is a concert or not. It was approved by a majority of hands in favor, so please bring a non-perishable food item to the October meeting for the local food pantry.
A unanimous vote was held in favor of having a festival in 2009. There was no opposition. Ken brought up the idea of on-going annual festivals, unless there is a specific reason not to. A motion was made and seconded and a show of hands unanimously accepted.
Paula House volunteered to be the festival chairperson for 2009. Hats off to Paula! She will be taking care of advance sales for the festival, etc. and will be looking for volunteers to help in any way or will be contacting people to serve on sub-committees,
Let’s all work together to make next year a bigger, better festival.
Paula has applied for a grant for $5000.00 to help with this year’s and future years festivals.
A report was given by Jim Hartman on how much the association collects annually from dues, how many current members there are, and how many life members we have.
The 50/50 was won by our guest, Barb Mitchell. Welcome and congratulations! The meeting was adjourned at l:50 p.m.
After the meeting, some of the women talked about having a Thanksgiving dinner at our November meeting. Myrtle Fronczak is going to make up a list and anyone who wants to bring something special for our November dinner can sign up on the sheet. We will be having a turkey dinner. We thought it would be a fun thing to do and hope everyone will join us for a good time together.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Hartman, Secy.
